Amir Khan (Boxer) Fight Records, Upcoming Fights, Biography

Amir Iqbal Khan lives in his birthplace of Bolton, Lancashire in the United Kingdom. A 5’8” orthodox in the welterweight division, “King Khan” made his professional boxing debut against David Bailey in his hometown of Bolton back in 2005. Khan won the fight by TKO, setting off a streak of 18 consecutive wins, including five bouts for the Commonwealth Lightweight Title (British Empire), including four defenses.

Khan’s first loss was in 2008 by KO against Breidis Prescott in Khan’s first defense of the WBO Inter-Continental Lightweight title. In March 2009, Khan defeated Marco Antonio Barrera to defend his WBA International Lightweight title, while picking up the WBO Inter-Continental Lightweight title that eluded him before.

From there, Khan stepped up to super lightweight (140 lbs) from lightweight (135 lbs), and collected the WBA Super Lightweight title four months after defeating Barrera. Khan successfully defeated the title five times, the second of which took him to the United States for his boxing debut across the pond. In July 2011, Khan added the IBF World Super Lightweight title to his waist, carrying a record of 27-1-0. His first defense of the IBF title came up short, and Khan lost both of his titles to Lamont Peterson in December 2011 by split decision.

In July 2012, Khan had a shot to be champion again, fighting Danny Garcia in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino for the WBC and WBA Super World Lightweight titles. Khan’s bid came up short, losing by TKO, and he was forced to build his resume back up. He did just that, winning his next five bouts, earning him a contest with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2016 for the WBC World Middleweight title, which he lost by knockout. In 2019, Khan once again had a shot at being world champion again, this time against Terence Crawford for the WBO World Welterweight title. Khan fell by TKO and did not box again for the rest of 2019 or the next two years. He now makes his return to the ring against Kell Brook.
